The short version
The Bo app has no account, no server, and no analytics. Everything you enter, names, notes, dates, who you've reached out to, is stored only in a local database on your own device. Nothing is ever uploaded, synced, sold, or shared with anyone, including us.
The one exception is entirely optional and lives only on this website: if you ask us to email you when an app is public, we store the email address and choices you give us for that purpose. Details below, and you can remove yourself in one tap at any time.
What the app stores, and why
- People you add (name, phone/email/notes, important dates, contact history). This is the app's whole purpose, stored locally in an on-device database.
- Contacts (optional). If you choose to import someone from your phone's contacts, the app reads that entry via the system contact picker to prefill a name, number, or birthday. It never reads your full address book without you picking a specific person, and nothing is uploaded.
- Notifications. Used only to remind you locally, on-device, when someone's due a check-in. No push notification service is involved; nothing leaves your phone to schedule these.
Auto-detect (self-hosted/sideload builds only)
Outside the Google Play Store, Bo offers an optional, off-by-default feature that reads your device's SMS and call log to notice when you've already been in touch with someone, so it doesn't nag you unnecessarily. This is opt-in, can be turned off at any time in Settings, and never leaves your device. It's read locally and used only to update that person's "last contacted" date. The version of the app distributed through the Google Play Store does not include this feature and never requests SMS or call log access at all, in line with Play Store policy.
What we don't do
- No account or sign-up, ever
- No analytics, ads, or tracking SDKs of any kind
- No data is transmitted off your device, sold, or shared with third parties
- No cloud backup. If you want a backup, you create one yourself (Settings → Backup) and choose exactly where that file goes
Backups
The app includes a manual, user-initiated export/import feature (Settings → Backup) that writes a plain file containing your people and settings. This file is created only when you ask for it, and it's your choice where it's saved or shared. The app doesn't upload it anywhere on its own.
Children's privacy
Bo doesn't knowingly collect data from anyone, of any age. It doesn't collect data at all. There's nothing account-based or online for a child (or anyone else) to expose.
The updates list (this website only)
If you fill in the "tell me when Bo is ready" form on this site, here is exactly what happens.
- What we store: your email address, which app(s) you asked about (Android, iPhone, or both), and the dates you signed up and confirmed. Nothing else. We do not keep your IP address (only a short-lived, hashed counter is used briefly to prevent abuse, then it expires), and there is no tracking or advertising on this site.
- Why, and the legal basis: to email you when the app you chose becomes public. The basis is your consent, which you give by submitting the form and confirming.
- Double opt-in: after you submit the form we send one email with a confirmation link. You are only added to the list once you click it. If you never confirm, your address is not used and is removed in routine cleanups.
- What you will receive: a confirmation email, and then one launch email per app you chose, when it is public. That is all. No newsletters, no marketing.
- Unsubscribe: every email has a one-tap remove link. You can also email us and we will remove you.
- Where it lives: in a private database on Cloudflare (which hosts this site), not a third-party marketing platform. We use Resend only to deliver the emails; your address passes through them for sending and is not used by them for anything else.
- Retention: we keep your entry only while it has a purpose. Once the apps you asked about are public and the launch emails have gone out, or as soon as you unsubscribe, your entry is deleted. We never sell or share this list.
Your rights
For the updates list you can ask us at any time to show you what we hold, correct it, or delete it, and you can withdraw consent by unsubscribing. Just use the contact address below. The app itself holds no data about you on any server, so there is nothing there for us to look up, export, or delete on your behalf; that data is entirely in your hands on your device.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the "last updated" date above will change too. Material changes (anything that changes what data leaves your device) will also be called out in the app's release notes.
